Sport's international governing body, founded 1907 as IYRU.

World Sailing, founded in 1907 as the International Yacht Racing Union and known as ISAF from 1996 to 2015, is the sport’s international governing body, recognized by the IOC. It writes the Racing Rules of Sailing and the Offshore Special Regulations, selects the Olympic events and equipment, recognizes international classes, runs the Sailing World Cup and world championships, and certifies race officers and judges. National authorities such as the RYA and US Sailing operate under it.
