Yacht

A yacht is a vessel used for pleasure, racing, or charter rather than trade, sail or power, the broad category that the recreational marine industry and its regulation address. The word’s origin is the Dutch jacht, a fast hunting or pursuit boat. In law and in the leisure market the term spans everything from a small sailing keelboat through cruiser-racers to large motor and sailing superyachts, with EU recreational craft up to 24 meters governed by Directive 2013/53/EU.
