X-DF (WinGD)

B2. Marine Engineering

Definition

Otto-cycle dual-fuel two-stroke engine.

X-DF is WinGD’s low-pressure dual-fuel two-stroke technology, which burns gas on the lean-burn Otto cycle at low gas-supply pressure with a pilot oil ignition, rather than the high-pressure diesel-cycle gas injection of the MAN ME-GI. Low-pressure admission removes the need for a high-pressure gas compressor and gives NOx Tier III compliance in gas mode without after-treatment, at the cost of methane slip from the lean burn. WinGD addresses the slip with iCER exhaust recirculation in the X-DF2.0 generation. The X-DF designation spans bores from the X52 to the X92 class; X-DF-A is the diesel-cycle ammonia version and X-DF-HP the high-pressure LNG version.
