Xiamen Maritime Museum
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
Chinese coastal port museum.
A museum in Xiamen, Fujian province, on China’s southeast coast, interpreting the region’s history as a major port of the maritime Silk Road and of overseas Chinese emigration. Fujian shipwrights built the ocean-going junks that carried Chinese trade across the South China Sea and Indian Ocean, including the era of Zheng He’s Ming treasure voyages of 1405 to 1433. Exhibits cover navigation, junk construction, and the China tea and porcelain export trade.
