A heritage site at Nanjing, China, commemorating the admiral Zheng He, the eunuch commander who led seven Ming dynasty treasure-fleet voyages between 1405 and 1433 to Southeast Asia, India, Arabia, and the East African coast. Nanjing was the Ming capital and the base where the giant treasure ships were built at the Longjiang shipyard. The memorial interprets the fleet’s scale, its navigation, and Zheng He’s death at sea on the final voyage about 1433.
