Zuiderzee Museum
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
Dutch open-air museum at Enkhuizen.
A Dutch museum at Enkhuizen on the former Zuiderzee, opened 1948 (indoor) and 1983 (open-air), recording life on the inland sea before the 1932 Afsluitdijk closed it off and created the freshwater IJsselmeer. The open-air section reassembles roughly 130 buildings from drowned and changed fishing villages, with a working harbor of traditional flat-bottomed botters and tjalks. The indoor museum holds ship models, fishing gear, and regional costume.
