Zumwalt-Class Destroyer (DDG 1000)

E2. Naval, defence and maritime law enforcement

Definition

USN advanced surface combatant class.

The Zumwalt class (US hull symbol DDG-1000) is a class of three US Navy guided-missile destroyers built for land attack and stealth, the largest destroyers in US service at about 16,000 tons full load. The tumblehome wave-piercing hull, integrated electric propulsion, and composite deckhouse cut the radar cross-section to that of a far smaller ship. The lead ship USS Zumwalt commissioned in 2016. Its two 155 mm Advanced Gun Systems were left without affordable ammunition, so the Navy is refitting the class to carry hypersonic Conventional Prompt Strike missiles.
