Bunker Tanker

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Small tanker delivering fuel to ships.

A small tanker (commonly 1,000 to 10,000 dwt) that delivers marine fuel ship-to-ship at anchorage or alongside, acting as the floating link between the shore depot and the receiving vessel. It carries metered transfer lines, a sampling arrangement, and issues a bunker delivery note under MARPOL Annex VI Reg.18, which mandates the BDN and a retained representative sample. LNG and methanol bunker tankers add cryogenic or low-flashpoint transfer systems. Transfers follow ISO 13739 and local port bunkering codes.
