Captain Superintendent

A shore-based master mariner who oversees a fleet, a group of vessels, or a newbuilding project from the owner’s or manager’s office. Holding an STCW Regulation II/2 unlimited Master certificate plus command experience, the captain superintendent (often titled marine superintendent) manages nautical operations, audits vessels for ISM Code compliance, attends Port State Control detentions, investigates incidents, and supervises drydockings and sea trials. On a newbuilding the role means resident supervision at the yard, witnessing tests and signing off the vessel against the building specification before delivery.
