Technical Superintendent

The technical superintendent is the shore-based manager responsible for the maintenance, repair, and class and statutory surveys of an assigned fleet of ships. The superintendent plans dry-dockings, controls the maintenance budget, oversees the planned maintenance system, and is usually a former chief engineer. The role sits within the technical department of a shipowner or third-party manager and is the office counterpart to the ship’s chief engineer.
