Carrier Strike Group (CSG)
E2. Naval, defence and maritime law enforcementDefinition
Contemporary US Navy term for CBG.
A Carrier Strike Group is the contemporary US Navy term for a formation built around an aircraft carrier and its embarked air wing, screened by guided-missile cruisers and destroyers and often supported by an attack submarine and a fast combat-support ship. The escorts provide layered air, surface, and undersea defense so the carrier can project air power ashore or sea control over a wide area. It replaced the older Carrier Battle Group terminology in US usage.
