A chartered shipbroker is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers who has passed the FICS professional examinations covering chartering, sale and purchase, ship management, and shipping law. The qualification, run from London since the Institute’s 1911 Royal Charter, is the recognized professional credential in shipbroking and ship agency. It marks competence in the legal and commercial mechanics of fixing ships and trading tonnage.
