Definition

Cruise industry association.

The Cruise Lines International Association, the global trade body for ocean and river cruise operators, formed in 1975 and headquartered in Washington DC. In 2006 it merged with the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL, founded 1990), absorbing that body’s regulatory and policy role at the IMO. CLIA represents more than 50 member lines accounting for over 90 percent of global oceangoing cruise capacity, sets member policies on safety and emissions, and holds consultative status at the IMO as an industry observer.
