ECCN (Export Control Classification Number)

E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and risk

Definition

US EAR designator for controlled goods.

A five-character alphanumeric code in the US Commerce Control List that identifies items controlled under the Export Administration Regulations and the reasons for control. The first digit is the category (0 to 9), the letter the product group (A to E), and the remaining digits the specific entry; for example 3A001 covers certain electronic components. The ECCN determines whether an export needs a Bureau of Industry and Security license against the destination. Items not listed are designated EAR99.
