Endeavour, J-Class

Endeavour is a J-class sloop designed by Charles E. Nicholson and built in 1934 by Camper & Nicholson at Gosport, England, for aviation magnate Thomas Octave Murdoch Sopwith, who challenged for the 1934 America’s Cup. At 130 ft (39.6 m) with a steel hull and mast, she lost the match 4 to 2 to the US defender Rainbow but came closer to winning the Cup than any challenger until Australia II in 1983. Endeavour was restored in the 1980s to 1990s and still sails as a classic J.
