Engine Power Limitation (EPL)
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Limiter device per MEPC.335(76).
Engine power limitation caps the maximum power a main engine can deliver, lowering the $P$ term in the attained EEXI so an existing ship meets its required index without re-engining. Under MEPC.335(76) the limit is set in an onboard EPL management manual, can be overridable for safety with the override logged, and is verifiable by survey. Shaft power limitation (ShaPoLi) achieves the same on the shaft side. The reserve power stays available for heavy weather and emergencies.
