FPSO Turret Mooring
E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleetsDefinition
Internal/external rotating mooring system.
A turret mooring lets a Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit weathervane: the ship rotates freely around a fixed turret to which the mooring lines and the production risers connect, so the hull always heads into the prevailing weather while the well connections stay still. The turret can be internal, built into the hull near the bow, or external, on an extending structure. It is the system that makes an FPSO viable in harsh, variable-direction sea states.
