Gas Carrier (LPG/LNG/LEG)

A tanker built to carry liquefied gases in bulk under the IMO IGC Code (mandatory under SOLAS Chapter VII for ships built on or after 1 July 1986; 2016 edition current). LPG carriers move propane and butane near minus 42 degrees C; LNG carriers move methane at minus 162 degrees C in membrane or Moss tanks; LEG carriers handle liquefied ethylene gas down to about minus 104 degrees C. The IGC Code sets ship type 1G/2G/2PG/3G by cargo hazard, plus cargo-containment, materials, and venting requirements.
