GLORYS

D5. Coastal processes, sea-level, cryosphere and ocean observation science

Definition

Mercator Ocean global ocean reanalysis.

GLORYS is the global ocean physical reanalysis produced by Mercator Ocean International, the Global Ocean Reanalysis and Simulation, built on the NEMO ocean model with assimilation of satellite altimetry, sea-surface temperature, sea ice, and in-situ Argo and mooring profiles. The widely used GLORYS12V1 product runs at one-twelfth-degree horizontal resolution with 50 vertical levels, covering 1993 onward at the eddy-resolving scale that resolves boundary currents and mesoscale eddies. It supplies temperature, salinity, currents, sea-surface height, and mixed-layer depth as a consistent ocean state. GLORYS is a backbone of the Copernicus Marine Service and a standard reference for current climatology and hindcast routing.
