Definition

French organization producing ocean analyses for CMEMS.

Mercator Ocean International is the French nonprofit organization in Toulouse that produces global ocean analyses and forecasts, and is the entity entrusted by the European Union to implement the Copernicus Marine Service. It develops the NEMO-based modeling and data-assimilation systems behind the GLORYS reanalysis and the operational global forecast, blending satellite altimetry, sea-surface temperature, sea ice, and Argo profiles into a daily ocean state. Mercator was established in 1995 by French ocean-science and space agencies and became an international organization with several European member states. Its products supply currents, temperature, salinity, sea level, and sea ice for navigation, search and rescue, and offshore operations.
