Hapag-Lloyd Maritime Training
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
In-house training programs of Hamburg-based liner operator.
Hapag-Lloyd Maritime Training is the in-house cadet and crew development run by Hapag-Lloyd AG, the Hamburg-based container liner formed in 1970 from the merger of Hamburg-America Line (HAPAG, 1847) and Norddeutscher Lloyd (1857). Company programs sponsor nautical and engineering cadets toward German and other flag-state certificates of competency under STCW 1978 as amended (Manila 2010), combining academy study with sea time aboard the operator’s fleet. It is a shipowner training scheme, not a degree-awarding academy.
