Deck Cadet

A deck cadet is a trainee deck officer in the initial sea phase of training toward the STCW Regulation II/1 officer of the watch Certificate of Competency. The cadet works under the chief officer, completes the tasks set out in the training record book, and stands supervised bridge and deck watches. The sea phase, usually 12 months, runs alongside the academic program of a nautical college and precedes the flag-state OOW oral examination.
