Iridium SafetyCast

Iridium SafetyCast is the satellite Maritime Safety Information (MSI) service over the Iridium GMDSS network, broadcasting navigational and meteorological warnings, weather forecasts, and search-and-rescue information to ships. It is the Iridium counterpart to Inmarsat’s SafetyNET II under the GMDSS, distributing MSI from registered information providers through the global LEO L-band constellation. SafetyCast entered service alongside the Iridium GMDSS distress and safety service in 2020, extending recognized MSI coverage to polar Sea Area A4 that Inmarsat geostationary satellites cannot serve.
