ISO 28005
E3. Technology, digitalization and smart shippingDefinition
Electronic port clearance standard.
ISO 28005 specifies electronic port clearance (EPC) messages for ship-to-shore and shore-to-ship data exchange, giving the technical format behind a maritime single window. ISO 28005-1 covers message structures and reference data; ISO 28005-2 defines the core data elements. It maps to the IMO FAL Convention data set and the IMO Compendium, so a vessel submits standardized arrival, security (ISPS), crew, passenger, and cargo information once. Use of a single window for these formalities became mandatory under the FAL Convention on 1 January 2024.
