Junior Sailing Programme

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Yacht club youth training program.

A junior sailing program is a yacht-club or national-authority youth training scheme that teaches sailing to children and teenagers, typically in small one-design dinghies such as the Optimist, an 8-foot single-hander designed by Clark Mills in 1947. Programs progress from confidence and capsize drills to racing, feeding club fleets and national youth squads. National frameworks include US Sailing’s REACH and Reach for instructor certification and the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme in Britain.
