Maersk Triple-E

B5. Ship Types and Individual Vessels

Definition

18,300 TEU container ship class.

The Maersk Triple-E is a class of container ships introduced in 2013 with a nominal capacity of about 18,000 TEU, named for the three design goals of economy of scale, energy efficiency, and environmental improvement. The lead ship was the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller. The class uses a twin-skeg, twin-engine layout and a slow-steaming design speed to cut fuel per container moved, and on delivery it was the largest container ship in the world, a record since passed by Ultra Large Container Vessels approaching 24,000 TEU.
