ULCS/ULCV (Ultra Large Container Vessel)

B5. Ship Types and Individual Vessels

Definition

>14,500 TEU container ship.

An Ultra Large Container Vessel is a container ship above about 14,500 TEU, the largest box-ship category, with the current generation approaching 24,000 TEU on hulls about 400 meters long and 61 meters in beam. The class serves only the main Asia-Europe and transpacific trades and calls at a small number of deepwater hub ports, since few terminals have the quay length, crane outreach, and draft to work it. Recent examples include the Ever Ace at 23,992 TEU.
