MTU 4000 series

The MTU Series 4000 is a high-speed four-stroke V-engine family with a 170 mm bore and 210 mm stroke, built in 8, 12, 16, and 20-cylinder versions and rated roughly 750 to 4,300 kW at 1,800 to 2,100 rpm. Built by Rolls-Royce Power Systems (MTU brand), it uses common-rail injection, sequential turbocharging, and four valves per cylinder for low fuel burn and IMO Tier II compliance. It serves fast vessels, workboats, yachts, naval craft, and as a marine genset or emergency generator. Series 4000 runs on marine gas oil or distillate, not heavy fuel oil, given its high rotational speed.
