The industrial-heritage records of Newport News Shipbuilding, the Virginia yard founded in 1886 by Collis P. Huntington and the builder of US Navy aircraft carriers and the liner SS United States. The archival collection, much of it held at The Mariners’ Museum library at Newport News, preserves the yard’s ship plans, photographs, launch records, and corporate papers documenting more than a century of warship and merchant-ship construction.
