Pen Duick

Pen Duick is the name of a series of yachts sailed by French ocean racer Eric Tabarly. The original Pen Duick is a 1898 gaff cutter designed by William Fife III, built at Carrigaloe in Cork Harbour, Ireland; Tabarly’s father bought her and Eric acquired her in 1952, saving the rotting hull by molding a polyester shell over it. Later boats Pen Duick II through VI carried Tabarly’s offshore campaigns, including his 1964 OSTAR transatlantic win. Pen Duick means coal tit in Breton.
