Port Engineer
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Shore-based technical operations role.
The port engineer is the shore-based engineer who attends ships in port to plan and supervise repairs, surveys, and dry-dock work, the technical operations counterpart to the seagoing chief engineer. The role spans repair specification, contractor supervision, and class-survey coordination, often for a defined group of vessels or a home port. It overlaps with the technical superintendent role, with port engineer the more hands-on, port-attendance variant.
