Port Reception Facility

A port reception facility receives ship-generated wastes and cargo residues that ships cannot lawfully discharge at sea, an obligation placed on parties under MARPOL Article 11 and within each annex. The adequacy of reception facilities is the counterpart to the discharge restrictions: without them, ships have no compliant route for oily waste, NLS residues, sewage, and garbage.
