Proof of delivery
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
POD, signed delivery document.
A proof of delivery (POD) is the document signed by the receiver confirming that the goods were delivered, recording the date, time, place, condition, and any shortage or damage noted on receipt. In road haulage it is the consignee’s signature on the CMR consignment note or its eCMR equivalent, which under the CMR Convention is prima facie evidence of the contract terms and of receipt in apparent good order. Carriers and forwarders retain the POD to close out the delivery, support invoicing, and defend against claims; a clean POD signed without reservation limits the consignee’s later cargo claim.
