Reefer rack

A reefer rack is the powered stacking structure or aisle in a container yard that supplies electrical power to refrigerated containers so their units keep the cargo cold while ashore. It provides three-phase outlets, usually 440 V at 32 A per plug, on a gantry walkway or a row of pedestals serving each stack tier, with a monitoring system that logs set-point and supply temperature and raises an alarm on a failed unit. Rack capacity and power draw size the terminal substation: a large reefer terminal can draw several megawatts at peak plug count. Layout keeps the racks within the cable reach of each box and accessible for plug and unplug by yard staff.
