Resolution Numbering
A1. The IMO and the international regulatory frameworkDefinition
A.xxx(yy) where xxx is the consecutive number and yy is the Assembly session.
IMO resolution numbering encodes the adopting organ and session in the identifier. Assembly resolutions take the form A.xxx(yy), where xxx is the consecutive resolution number and yy is the Assembly session, as in A.1070(28). Committee resolutions follow the same pattern with the committee prefix and session: MSC.xxx(yy) for the Maritime Safety Committee and MEPC.xxx(yy) for the Marine Environment Protection Committee, for example MEPC.328(76). The scheme lets any IMO resolution be traced to the body and meeting that adopted it, which matters because amendments are cited by these numbers in national law.
