South Street Seaport Museum at Manhattan.
The South Street Seaport Museum in Lower Manhattan, founded in 1967 to preserve the 19th-century sailing-ship district along the East River. Its fleet includes the 1885 full-rigged iron ship Wavertree, the 1908 lightship Ambrose, and the 1893 schooner Pioneer. The museum holds printing shops, a chandlery, and galleries interpreting the Port of New York’s role in trans-Atlantic packet and clipper shipping.
