The Museum of America and the Sea at Mystic, Connecticut, founded in 1929 as the Marine Historical Association. It is the largest maritime museum in the United States, a recreated 19th-century seafaring village with a working preservation shipyard, the Henry B. duPont shipyard. Its flagship holding is the Charles W. Morgan, an 1841 wooden whaleship and the last surviving wooden whaler in the world, a National Historic Landmark.
