SSE Sub-Committee
A1. The IMO and the international regulatory frameworkDefinition
Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment.
The Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE) is the IMO body responsible for life-saving appliances and the LSA Code, fire-protection systems and the FSS Code, lifeboat and rescue-boat release gear, and the design of fixed fire-fighting and detection systems. It reports to the MSC. SSE first met in 2014, taking over the equipment and fire-safety work of the former FP and DE sub-committees under the 2013 restructuring. It develops equipment and systems requirements for adoption by the MSC but adopts no instruments itself.
