Standard speed trial
B4. Shipbuilding, Materials, Sea Trials, Retrofits and RecyclingDefinition
Mile run on measured mile per ISO 15016.
The standard speed trial measures a ship’s speed against engine power on a measured course in defined conditions to demonstrate the contract speed and validate the model-test predictions. Runs are made in pairs on reciprocal headings, the double-run method, so that the current cancels in the mean, and the results are corrected to the reference condition by ISO 15016. The trial is run in deep water at a steady displacement and trim, with the measurement plan, the run sequence, and the correction method agreed before the ship leaves the yard.
