Stevedore Security Screening

Stevedore security screening is the access control and identity verification applied to dock workers, longshoremen, and contractors before they board a ship or enter a port-facility restricted area. ISPS Code Part A Sections 14 and 16, with Part B paragraph 16.17, require the facility security plan to set procedures for checking the identity and authorizing the access of persons including shore labor; the ship security plan does the same under Section 9. In the US, port workers carry a Transportation Worker Identification Credential under the MTSA. Screening reduces insider threat and theft during cargo operations.
