Trim optimization software finds the longitudinal trim that minimizes a ship’s fuel consumption at a given speed and draft, drawing on computational-fluid-dynamics or model-test resistance maps plus live draft, speed, and shaft-power data. Because hull resistance varies with trim by tens of basis points of fuel for the same displacement, recommending an optimal even-keel or bow-trim condition each voyage cuts CO2 and supports CII targets at zero capital cost. Products such as NAPA, Eniram, and ForceTechnology SeaTrim feed the bridge a recommended trim; the gains are largest on container ships and bulkers at part-load drafts.
