Wheelhouse Watchkeeper

The wheelhouse watchkeeper is the deck rating on helm and lookout duty in the wheelhouse during the navigational watch, working directly to the officer of the watch. The function is the practical content of the ratings forming part of a navigational watch standard in STCW Regulation II/4: steering by helm order, changing from automatic to hand steering, keeping a proper lookout by sight and hearing, and reporting under the COLREGs lookout rule.
