Deck Rating

Deck rating is the collective term for non-officer crew in the deck department: ordinary seamen, able seamen, and the boatswain who supervises them. Ratings forming part of a navigational watch are certificated under STCW Regulation II/4, and the able seafarer deck grade under Regulation II/5. They handle mooring, cargo and hatch work, deck and hull maintenance, lookout, and helm duties under the officer of the watch and the chief officer.
