Windermere Steamboat Museum
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
English Lake District inland maritime collection.
A museum on the eastern shore of Windermere, England’s largest lake, holding a collection of steam launches and sailing yachts of the Lake District. It reopened in 2019 as Windermere Jetty Museum after rebuilding. Its centerpiece is the SL Dolly, a steam launch of about 1850 that is among the oldest surviving mechanically powered boats, recovered from the lakebed of Ullswater in 1962. The collection documents inland steam and racing yachts.
