Work and rest hours record
C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical managementDefinition
STCW and MLC record.
The work and rest hours record is the table of daily hours every seafarer keeps to prove compliance with the rest-hour limits, required jointly by STCW Code Section A-VIII/1 and MLC 2006 Standard A2.3. It must show at least 10 hours of rest in any 24-hour period and 77 in any 7-day period, with rest divided into no more than two periods, one of at least 6 hours and the interval between rest periods not over 14 hours. The IMO/ILO format is posted and signed by the seafarer and the master or an authorized officer. Port state control and vetting inspectors compare these records against logbooks and overtime sheets, and falsified records are a primary MLC and STCW deficiency.
