Yachting Heritage Museum
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
Various national institutions including Mystic Seaport's yacht collection.
A category of institution devoted to the history of recreational sailing, racing, and yacht design rather than a single named site. Mystic Seaport Museum at Mystic, Connecticut, holds one of the largest such collections, including America’s Cup material and the small-craft fleet, while the Herreshoff Marine Museum at Bristol, Rhode Island, founded 1971, preserves the designs of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company that built five successful America’s Cup defenders.
