Yangshan Maritime Cluster
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Shanghai's deep-water port cluster.
The maritime concentration around Yangshan Deep-Water Port, the offshore island terminal serving Shanghai, connected to the mainland by the 32.5 km Donghai Bridge. Yangshan’s Phase IV is among the world’s largest automated container terminals, operated by Shanghai International Port Group. The cluster handles deep-sea container shipping, pilotage, and bunkering, and feeds the Yangtze River delta’s manufacturing trade. Yangshan extended Shanghai’s container capacity beyond the silted Huangpu and made the port the world’s busiest by container throughput.
