Approved Security Equipment
E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and riskDefinition
Equipment listed in the SSP, maintained per ISPS A/13.
Approved security equipment is the physical hardware listed in a ship security plan and maintained, tested, and calibrated as the plan requires; examples include access barriers, lighting, CCTV, intrusion detection, communications, and the ship security alert system. SOLAS Chapter XI-2 Regulation 6 mandates the SSAS, and ISPS Code Part A Section 9.4 requires the SSP to identify the security equipment and the procedures for keeping it operational. Part B paragraph 9.45 lists illustrative equipment. The ship security officer verifies its readiness at each security level.
