Capesize segment of the Baltic indices.
The Baltic Exchange freight-rate index for Capesize dry-bulk carriers, vessels of roughly 180,000 deadweight tonnes too large for the Panama and Suez Canals. The BCI tracks daily time-charter and voyage rates across a basket of named iron-ore and coal routes, assessed by Baltic Exchange panelists. Since the March 2018 reweighting it carries 40% of the Baltic Dry Index, the largest single component, ahead of Panamax and Supramax at 30% each.
