Baltic Supramax Index (BSI)

The Baltic Exchange freight-rate index for Supramax dry-bulk carriers, geared vessels of roughly 58,000 deadweight tonnes carrying minor bulks, grain, and coal. The BSI is assessed daily from a basket of time-charter routes reported by Baltic Exchange panelists. It carries 30% of the Baltic Dry Index under the March 2018 weighting, the same share as Panamax; the Handysize index was dropped from the BDI in that revision, leaving three components.
